Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, interact socially, and process information. Since autism exists on a spectrum, each person experiences it differently—some may need minimal support, while others may require more intensive care. Early intervention is key to helping children develop essential life skills and reach their full potential.
The term “autism” was first used in the 1940s by researchers Dr. Leo Kanner and Dr. Hans Asperger, who described children with unique social and communication differences. Over time, our understanding of autism has evolved, and it is now recognized as a spectrum disorder with a wide range of abilities and challenges. Today, autism is diagnosed based on behavior, rather than medical tests, and treatment options like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) have been developed to help children build meaningful skills.
While every child develops at their own pace, some early signs of autism may appear by 12–24 months. Parents should be aware of the following:
Social & Communication Differences
❌ Delayed or no speech (or loss of speech after developing it)
❌ Not responding to their name by 12 months
❌ Difficulty understanding emotions or expressing their own

At Little Dreams Learning Center, we know that starting ABA therapy can come with many questions. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from families.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-based therapy that helps children with autism and other developmental differences learn new skills, improve communication, and reduce challenging behaviors. ABA is individualized to meet each child’s specific needs and goals.
If your child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or struggles with communication, social interactions, or daily living skills, ABA therapy may be beneficial. A formal assessment by a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) will determine if ABA is the right fit.
Children as young as 18 months can benefit from ABA therapy, and research shows that early intervention leads to the best outcomes. However, ABA is effective for individuals of all ages, including school-aged children and teens.
At Little Dreams Learning Center, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality ABA therapy with over 10 years of experience in the field.
